Time Calculator
Add, subtract, or measure hours and minutes with HH:MM and decimal output.
07:45 plus 02:30 equals 10:15 (10.25 decimal hours, 615 minutes). Decimal hours are the standard format used by most timesheet and payroll systems.
How do you add or subtract hours and minutes?
Times are converted to total minutes, the math runs, and the result is converted back to HH:MM along with a decimal-hours figure for timesheets. In duration mode, end times before the start time wrap past midnight.
What is the decimal-hours output for?
Payroll systems and freelancer invoices usually expect hours in decimal form — 7h 30m becomes 7.5. The calculator returns both formats so you can copy whichever your timesheet needs.
Frequently asked questions
What format should I enter times in?
Use 24-hour HH:MM format, for example 07:45 or 17:30. The native time picker on most browsers handles this automatically.
Can the result be negative?
In add/subtract mode the result is normalized to a positive duration. In duration mode, a negative span means you've crossed midnight, so the result wraps.
What are decimal hours used for?
Decimal hours are the standard format for timesheets and billing. 1 hour 30 minutes equals 1.5 decimal hours.
Does it handle durations longer than 24 hours?
Yes. The HH:MM display shows totals beyond 24 hours rather than wrapping to a clock.
